The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a blood drive on May 24, 2012 in Morris Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. Beginning with this drive, everyone who wants to sign up for a time slot must do so online. We’ll no longer use a paper sign-up sheet. To sign up, go to the Blood Center Web site at www.InYourHands.org. In the “donate blood” box, click on “login” and follow the prompts. If this is your first time to ever donate blood, click on “not yet a donor.” If you’ve donated before but don’t know your “donor ID,” click on “retrieve my donor ID.” When asked for our “sponsor code,” it’s “neumann.” If you have problems logging in, call (512) 206-1117 for help. We hope to see you on May 24, 2012!

Do you play a solo instrument? Are you interested in playing  some solo repertoire for a Mass this summer?

We are seeking out parishioners who are accomplished solo instrument players to offer their talent by playing for a Mass or two. If you’re high school age or above and have been playing your instrument for at least four years, please contact Staff Organist Christina Hargis at (512) 328-3220 or to discuss the possibilities!

An execution was scheduled for April 26, 2012. The Culture of Life Committee invites all to pray for the victim of the crime, the convicted killer and their family, that they may all find mercy, healing forgiveness and peace.

WHO: Individuals, couples or families from SJN Parish

WHAT: The honor and privilege of having in your home a chalice that has held the Precious Blood of Jesus

WHY: To pray for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life

HOW: During Mass, receive a consecrated chalice known as the Elijah Cup, put it in a place of honor in your home for a month and gather together at least once a day to pray for vocations, especially vocations from our SJN parish.

WHEN: On an available date and Mass time that are convenient for you

Watch for the next presentation of the Chalice on April 29, 2012 during the 5:30 p.m. Mass.

Catholic Charities recognizes Mary Saniuk, a parishioner at St. John Neumann, as the 2012 Sister Helen Brewer Social Justice award recipient.

Mary has shown unwavering commitment to the Gabriel Project Life Center. Mary spends numerous hours stocking, cleaning and arranging the GPLC infant room. She and her husband, Rich, built shelves and donated furniture and storage items for the room. Mary often takes donated clothing, blankets, bibs and other items home to launder and sort before her next visit to the Life Center. She has been instrumental in helping other individual volunteers and service groups become involved with GPLC. Without her support, Catholic Charities would not be able to effectively serve the pregnant women who benefit from the countless donations that are given to the program.

The Social Justice Award, named after Sister Helen Brewer, D.C., is given to honor an outstanding commitment to serving the poor and promoting social justice through volunteer service to Catholic Charities of Central Texas. This Social Justice Award is given to individuals who have made a significant impact in serving the poor and vulnerable.

St. John Neumann Knights of Columbus Council will present three scholarships in May 2012. Scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and / or applicants enrolled in higher education (undergraduate studies) who complete this application form and return it by April 30, 2012 for consideration. Applications are available in the church office or at the Knights of Columbus Web site, www.sjnkc.org.
