Of My Sin, Cleanse Me: Advent Penance Service

Tuesday, December 19 from 7-9 p.m. in the Church

Because of human weakness, Christians “turn aside from [their] early love” (Rev. 2:4) and even break off their friendship with God by sinning. Therefore, the Lord instituted a special sacrament of penance for the pardon of sins committed after baptism (John 20:21-23), entrusting this ministry of reconciliation to the Church in the person of the apostles (see 2 Cor. 5:18ff). Moreover, reconciliation between God and men was brought about by our Lord Jesus Christ in the mystery of his death and resurrection (cf. Rom 5:10). The Church has faithfully celebrated the sacrament throughout the centuries in varying ways but always retained is essential elements (Sacred Congregation for Divine Worship Rite of Penance Decree).

As part of our preparation in the Advent Season for Christmas, we are offering to our parishioners this Rite of Reconciliation for Several Penitents in which we will have a Liturgy of the Word, Examination of Conscience, and then individual confession and absolution. We’ll have about eight to ten priests available, speaking various languages for your convenience. We encourage you to join us and for those ministers of SJN, to volunteer for this evening by clicking below.
