The renewal of the Holy Spirit in our midst will occur at the 5:00 pm Mass on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Teens and Sponsors will meet in the Holy Family Center at 3:30 pm. The Confirmation procession into the Church will begin around 4:30 pm. Please tell your family and friends to be in their pews at that time so they don't miss the procession and they will also have a better view than the regular attendees of the 5:00 pm Mass.
The Confirmation Sponsor and Candidate Rehearsal is scheduled on Wednesday, April 12th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
There are only 11 Confirmation Classes on Wednesday evenings.
2 absences are permitted without an issue. Missing more than the maximum allowed absences of the Wednesday classes may delay the reception of the Sacrament.
There are three Confirmation Sponsor and Candidate events. Teens may miss one without an issue. If the Sponsor cannnot attend an event, the Confirmation Candidate should still attend.
Teens in the Confirmation Preparation Process will attend a minium of two of the HSM Sunday events per month. These events occur after the 5:00 pm Sunday Mass. Dinner is included, followed by the event until 8:00 pm.
All Confirmation Candidates will choose a Saint's name. But why does this tradition exist?
This Saint is chosen to help you be the person you want to be like, as well as someone who can pray for you from heaven!
"Through the process of canonization, when someone is declared by the Church to be a saint, the Church is proclaiming that this member of the faithful practiced heroic virtue during their life on earth. The Church recognizes the power of the Spirit of holiness within her and sustains the hope of believers by proposing the Saints to them as models and intercessors." (CCC 828).
To aspire to be like a saint is the same as trying to imitate an actor, musician, or athlete; a Confirmation Saint is someone cool who we want to be like!
You may have a famous actor, musician, or athlete that you admire for their talent and skill. What many people don’t realize is that there are good people to look up to within our Church, for us to try to be like as well. It is common for us to think that only adults can become saints, but that is wrong.
As a young teen in the early 4th century, Saint Agnes was martyred because she refused to denounce her faith. Saint Aloysius, a young Jesuit in the late 16th century, helped care for people who were sick with the plague, giving them care and love as they left this world. His close contact with the disease took his life soon thereafter. Both these young saints bear witness to having the love of God as their priority. These are just a couple of examples! There are soooooo many great Saints!
It is important to remember that as members of the Church, we are never been alone, as St. Paul said, ‘We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 12:1). These witnesses are the saints who continually intercede for us (CCC 956); in choosing a Confirmation Saint, we are choosing a special friend to intercede for us in heaven and after whom we can model our lives while here on earth.
You can’t call up a famous person you want to be like and ask them for help, but your Confirmation saint is someone who you can talk to whenever you need them and they will always have your back! See the left column to learn how to choose a Saint Name and how to create your Saint Display Board to be used on Saint's Day.
All Teens preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation will go on retreat on the weekend of February 3/4/5.
Please note: To reduce the number of Wednesday evening Confirmation sessions, some necessary sessions will be included in the retreat. The retreat is an integral part of the immediate preparation for the reception of the Sacrament. Missing the retreat would put teens over the allowed amount of absences and would delay the reception of the Sacrament. Also, arriving late to the retreat or leaving early is not permitted.
At the Confirmation Orientation, all families were given a paper copy of the Confirmation Calendar of Events and the Confirmation Family Handbook. The Calendar of Events has now been updated to include the newly announced Confirmation Mass date and more. A new paper copy of the Calendar of Events has been mailed home. Click below to download and print as many additional copies of both documents as you want.
