Who is the Pastor of St. John Neumann Catholic Church?
Fr. Dean Wilhelm is our pastor. Rev. Dean Wilhelm received his B.A. in Philosophy at the University of St. Thomas in Houston in 1984. He was a seminarian at the Pontifical North American College in Rome from 1984 until 1988. He received his License in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 1987 as well as his diploma in Pastoral Theology in 1988. Fr. Dean was ordained a priest on July 23, 1988. He was Associate Pastor at St. Thomas More Catholic Church and at the St. Mary’s Catholic Center in College Station, TX. He was the Pastor from June 1997 to June 2005 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station, TX. Furthermore, he was the Formation Director at St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston, TX from July 2005 to May 2006 and from 2006 to 2009 he was the Vice Rector. He was the Pastor at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock, Texas from July 2009 - January 2021.
Fr. Dean tells us that he had the immense blessing to be a seminarian in Rome during the papacy of St. John Paul II. During those years, he also had the profound opportunity to work with St. Teresa of Calcutta’s Missionaries of Charity. These experiences have greatly formed him and impacted the exercise of his priestly ministry. They instilled in him a great love for the Real Presence of Christ in the Mass and in His Mercy in the Sacrament of Confession. He says, “having the blessing of meeting these two saints has had an amazing influence in my life as a priest. They have challenged me to desire to see the face of Christ in every human person I encounter.”
What are the requirements to receive the sacrament of Confirmation?
Our hope is that students are continually involved and engaged in faith formation, youth ministry and the life of their parish. However, pursuant to the diocesan policy for Confirmation, students must have, at a minimum, two years immediately prior to beginning confirmation formation in a formal parish religious education, comprehensive youth ministry or Catholic school education. At St. John Neumann Church, since our formation begins in the spring of the 10th grade year, students have to be active in the program from their second semester eighth grade year until Confirmation begins in the spring of their 10th grade year.
